Each month we are inviting family members of kindergarten to ​fifth graders to be a guest reader in the library during their ​student’s library time.


As a guest reader, you may share 1-2 family favorites or check in ​with me for ideas - I’m happy to help! You will have a 15 minute ​time slot.

Texas Bluebonnet Book Challenge ~ Grades 3-5

What is the Texas Bluebonnet Award?

Books to read

  • A state-wide reading program designed to get students to read new and different books.


  • There are a variety of genres on the list; from poetry, to graphic novels, to fantasy and realistic ​fiction.


  • Students are eligible to receive prizes for every 5 books they read from the current list.


  • In January, students who have read at least 5 books from the list, will be able to vote for their ​favorite title.


  • If students read 10 of the 20 books, they are eligible to come to the Bluebonnet Breakfast in ​February of 2025!

How to Participate in the Bluebonnet Challenge

What Is the Texas Bluebonnet Award?

Books to read

  • Students may read the books independently or with a family member, friend, or teacher.


  • Bluebonnet books can be found in the Kocurek library, public library, classroom library, book ​store, book fair, or on Learning Ally.


  • Students must answer a 5-question quiz after reading the book and answer at least 4/5 ​questions correctly. Paper quizzes can be found in the library and online quizzes are available ​at the links below. Place the completed paper quizzes in the tray on the check-out counter ​labeled “Completed Bluebonnet Quizzes”.


  • If a student doesn’t answer 4/5 questions correctly, they will have a second chance to take the ​quiz.

What Is the Texas Bluebonnet Award?

Books to read

  • Read 5 books and get: your name on the Friday morning announcements, ​a vote for the Texas Bluebonnet book in January, and a bookmark.


  • Read 10 books and get: your name on the Friday announcements a ​second time, a vinyl sticker of your choice, and an invitation to the ​BLUEBONNET BREAKFAST in March2025!


  • Read 15 books and get: your name on the Friday announcements a third ​time, an invitation to the Bluebonnet breakfast, and a FREE BOOK at the ​Spring book fair!
